Brockham Green 102-7 Newdigate 101
After the run fest of the previous week, this game turned into a war of attrition on a pitch offering plenty for the bowlers.
Brockham won the toss, inserted the visitors, and dominated from the start. In form captain Richard Callcut was dismissed in the first over, and after 14 overs, Newdigate were faltering at 14-2. Dan Jones hit a far from fluent 24, and Charlie Major 16, but they couldnt stop Newdigate slipping to 59-8, and only some spirited defiance from Tim Pople (15), and Ben Crook 18 helped to lift the visitors to 101 all out from 45 overs. Mark Haines was the main wicket taker with 5-31, but the initial pressure had been built up by Billy Scott-Malden (3-22) and Chris Weill (12 runs from 10 overs)
In reply, Brockham found themselves in similar difficulties and were quickly reduced to 40-6. Allan Cooper inflicting most of the damage with 4-21. However captain Mike Tapper (11) and Paul Tipping (32) stood firm and inched the home side towards the target. When both fell, Ratcliffe continued on with 19 not out, and Weill came in to wrap things up with a quickfire 10 not out to see his side home with an over to spare |
