Saturday 1st XI Reports

16/05/09 - Claygate (A)
Newdigate  221-6 vs. Claygate 119

Newdigate got back to winning ways with a comprehensive victory over Claygate.

Having been asked to bat first, Newdigates third different opening partnership in as many games, settled down and compiled a stand of 96.  The bulk of these were from captain Richard Callcut who hit 70 before being caught in the deep. Partner Matt Clarke had batted patiently until this point, but was able to up the tempo in the second half of his innings to finish on 81 not out.  This innings allowed the other batsmen to take risks in the pursuit of quick runs, with Charlie Major (20) making the biggest contribution, and allowing the visitors to declare on 221-6

In reply, Claygate lost wickets at regular intervals, and only captain Henry Vincent (33) provided any resistance as his team subsided to 119 all out.  Newdigate's bowlers shared the wickets around, with Ben Crook (3-26) and Allan Cooper (2-16) the pick.  They were well backed up by good fielding which included a fine catch from Tim Pople
