17/04//2010 - Leigh (a) - Friendly

Leigh 196-9       Newdigate 165-9

Having won the toss, the home side elected to bat in sunny conditions, but were immediately in trouble as Allan Cooper (2-19) picked up two early wickets.

However, Cambra knuckled down and occupied the crease, and was well supported by Horsten (21) and then Bounds (64) who played positively.  At 178 for 3, Leigh looked set for a big total, but as they attempted to up the tempo, the returning Ben Crook ripped through the middle order, picking up 5 for 36, and leaving the hosts to declare on 196-9

In reply, Newdigate lost two quick wickets themselves, but were moving along nicely as in form captain, Richard Callcut, was joined by debutant Jason Wharam.  The latter played positively, hitting 5 maximums before falling to a fine catch in the deep by Cambra, having just passed 50.  Another flurry of wickets followed, and when Callcut fell for a well compiled 55, the writing was on the wall.

The Newdigate innings contained no less than 7 ducks, but Kris Skarzinski (26 not out), and Crook (9 not out) defied the home team to battle it out for a draw.

Newdigate have one more friendly to sort out their batting woes, before beginning their Surrey Downs Division 1 campaign
