Newdigate 249 all out vs. South Park Manor 250 - 6

Newdigate wasmade to pay for a poor fielding performance as South Park Manor chased down the target of 250 with 9 balls to spare.

After being asked to bat first Newdigate lost two wickets early on. Captain Richard Callcut kept the scoreboard moving before falling to Ashan for 34. Salman Hussain and Hiten Patel then steadied the ship for the visiting side as they put on 63 before Hussain fell for a well made 30.With the middle order failing to make an impact yet again it was left to Patel and Allan Cooper to put things back on track for Newdigate with a very useful 56 run partnership for the 8th wicket. Patel bringing up his maiden first team fifty in the process. Cooper fell for a well made 40 and with the late push gave Newdigate a score of 249 to defend. Patel finishing on 72no. and for the home side Ashan, Anjum and Shazad all picked up 2 wickets a piece.

South Park's reply was aggressive as expected but two dropped catches in the slips early on were to prove vital as the openers put on 77 in quick time before Sharon fell for 36. Another couple of catches and sloppy fielding display were to follow as the home team kept attacking the ball. Sabi went on to bring up his fifty before departing trying to take a quick single. Newdigate were given a glimmer of hope when home team captain Rehan, who had scored heavy last week fell to Ruky Wickremasinghe after only facing 4 balls. But Shahzad made sure there were to be no more slip ups as he took his team closer to the target of 250. Ben Crook and Allan Cooper came back on and took some late wickets but the home side went passed the target with 9 balls to spare. Cooper finishing with figures of 3 for 62 and Crook 2 for 82 for Newdigate.

Newdigate 309-1            South Park Manor 126

Having been ruled out of the championship race the previous week, Newdigate were determined to end their campaign on a high, and they certainly managed that!

Choosing to bat first on a damp wicket, Newdigate found the surface surprisingly placid as Richard Callcut in particular launched into the visiting attack.  Newdigate have after many years of trying, found a reliable opening partnership, and along with Matt Clarke, the home captain made a mammoth partnership of 222 from just 34 overs.  With the spectators scanning the record books, Callcut chopped onto his stumps for 130 for his third century of the season.  His 781 runs for the season could well retain the league batting award

Youngster Clarke was joined by Dan Jones, and they continued to push the score along with ones and twos to the defensively set field.

Clarke passed his maiden league century in the 44th over, and then cut loose to finish on 120 not out.  This was a fine end to the season for the 16 year old, finally making a century to back up his 7 fifties, and an impressive total of 704 runs at an average over 50.

Jones offered good support with 30 not out in a mammoth total of 309 for 1.

Newdigate haven't lost a game since their previous meeting with South Park Manor, and their batsmen tend to play just one way.  Sharan (10) and Moin (23) and Karthik (15) all played big shots, but the visitors were kept in check by Ben Crook (4-45).  Shahzad (52) hit some huge sixes, but under 15 debutant, Harry Ramsey, wrapped up the inevitable result, to finish with 2 for 7.

With South Nutfield losing, the win was enough for Newdigate to claim 2nd place behind champions Westcott for the second consecutive year.  They were unbeaten for the second half of the season, but too many draws stalled the title challenge.
