Newdigate 219 vs. West Chiltington 159-8
Newdigate completed their programme of preseason friendlies with an encouraging performance against West Chiltington .
Opting to bat first, Newdigate lost an early wicket, but captain Richard Callcut (30) and Dan Jones (11) moved the score on to 47-1 before both fell in quick succession. This brought together Ruky Wickremasinghe (46) and Jason Wharam (54) who accelerated the scoring and took the home team quickly past 100. Kris Skarzinski (35 not out) and Salman Hussain (21) then made important contributions to allow Newdigate to reach 219 all out.
In reply, Ben Crook (5-26) and Allan Cooper ripped through the top order to reduce the visitors to 5-4. West Chiltington captain, J Chaloner then dropped anchor, and defied the home bowlers for 36 overs to accumulate 87 not out. He received valuable support from the tail in the form of Toulson (25), Hasler (13) and Reeves (12 not out), to guide his team to a draw at 159-8
This was more encouraging from Newdigate with most of the batsmen now having had an innings of note, and the bowling attack looking dangerous. They host Ockham in their first Surrey Downs League Division 1 game next week.
