Saturday 2nd XI Reports

06/06/09 Capel (A)

Capel 1st XI - 202-4 vs. Newdigate 2nd XI 87 all out.

Capel anticipated this game perfectly by getting a good score quickly and allowing themselves plenty of time to bowl Newdigate out. Opener, Pearle (78 no) and Mitchell (84) created the foundation for Capel to declare after just 39 overs on 202-4. Ben Brearley was the best of the Newdigate bowlers and took 2-43 from eleven overs.

In reply only Peter Trower (40) and Chris Fox (17 no) reached double figures as Newdigate subsided to 87 all out. The wickets were shared amongst the Capel bowlers with Ward, Jee and Jaques all taking three apiece.

08/08/09 Capel (H)

Capel 1st XI 174-9 vs. Newdigate 2nd XI 127 all out

Capel won the toss and batted first and soon found themselves in trouble on a damp wicket. Craig Jones took three wickets as the visitors floundered on 52-4 but Paul Hinton (41) and Tim Mitchell (40) then put their heads down and put on a useful partnership of 54 before leg spinner, Jack Bowley,  (4-47) removed both batsmen to two of the three catches held by Hiten Patel. Marcus Bygrave, batting at number nine, then struck a powerful 21 to allow Capel to declare on 174-9 after 45 overs. Newdigate conceded 32 extras which did not help their cause.
Chris Ward (5-19 from 7.3 overs) and Marcus Bygrave opened the bowling and stifled the Newdigate batsmen by bowling accurately to a 8/1 field and with the score at 51-5 had the game pretty well won. Craig Jones (31) who has developed this season into a fine batsmen and Ben Brearley (36) then gave the home side a glimmer of hope, but when Jones was well caught by David Jaques in the outfield and Brearley was trapped LBW by Ward, Newdigate's resistance faded and they were all out for 127.
