Ockham 174 all out vs. Newdigate 175 -5
Visitors Ockham chose to bat after winning the toss at The Brocus on Saturday, but Newdigate quickly made inroads into Ockham's top order, reducing the visitors to 44 for 3 after 10 overs.
S Francis scored exactly 50, batting at No.4, but had only minor help from the upper and middle order, Ockham slipping to 135 for 8 after 32 overs. Enter Raj, batting at No.10 to change things around, he batted aggressively, if a little agriculturally, to score 34 not out and raise the visitor's total to 174 all out in 43 overs.
For Newdigate, opening bowler Ben Brearley had to withdraw from the attack after only four overs due to a groin strain, but fellow opener, Mike Kornrumph bowled well in two spells. taking 2 for 46 in 11 overs.
After a spell of spin bowling Paul Bettsworth, with his steady fast-medium, came on to blow away the middle order taking four quick wickets, and he finally claimed the tenth wicket of P Wilkinson to end Mr. Raj's exploits, recording excellent figures of 5 for 23 in 8.2 overs.
Newdigate's reply stuttered at the start at 27 for 2 but Simon Capel (40) and Mark Rance (35) steadied the ship, adding 51 for the second wicket. But then Capel, Rance and Slade went in quick succession to leave the home side at 107 for 5, still needing 68 for victory.
However, limping Ben Brearley (remember the groin strain), 40 not out, and man-of-the-match Paul Bettsworth, 25 not out, batted sensibly but forcefully to see Newdigate to victory with 14 over to spare.
Newdigate collected 39 points and Ockham 6.
