Saturday 2nd XI Reports

29/05/10 Tadworth (a)

Match cancelled due to rain.

 31/07/10 Tadworth (h)

Newdigate 250 for 6 wickets, beat Tadworth, 155 all out, by 95 runs.

Newdigate lost the toss and were asked to bat at The Brocus on Saturday. Opener Paul Bettsworth, out to the first ball of the match on the previous two Saturdays, survived the first ball to the cheers of his teammates. Not only did he survive, he went on to score a ton – an excellent 113 out of 180 for 4  when he finally holed out going for his fourth six. Kris Skarzynski was the other main contributor in a final total of 250 in 48 overs, he scored 56 with some well timed backfoot drives. For Tadworth M Barrot bowled well taking 4 for 77 in 15 overs, including two maidens.

Newdigate opened with spin bowlers Jack Bowley and James Penfold, the latter claiming the wicket of K Wilson in only third over of the innings. The new ball was soon taken, however, and both teams made steady progress with runs and wickets respectfully to the point of 136 for 4 but with only 22 overs remaining and a draw seeming likely.

Opener C Grierson and number 6  D Indiketyra each scored 45 but both were out at important moments – Newdigate claiming the last 5 wickets in only 7 overs for 19 runs. James Penfold came back to bowl more tantalising off-breaks and took two more wickets, ending with 3 for 34, and Charlie Major steamed in from the top end to take 4 for 28 in six aggressive overs to seal an excellent 95 run win for Newdigate, who took the maximum 40 points on offer. The fielding and catching were also excellent in an all round impressive performance.
