Alleyn & Honor Oak 162 all out vs. Newdigate 162
Newdigate Development team pulled off an improbable win against Alleyn & Honor Oak thanks to some excellent bowling and some power hitting from Jason Wharam and William Bennett in a thrilling encounter at the Brocus.
After electing to bat the visitors lost an early wicket to the bowling of Stephen Kehl. McCormack and Gwather then put on a steady partnership before Alex Southon had the latter caught behind for 23. At the half way mark the visitors were well placed at 105 for loss of only 2 wickets and looked set to put up a very good score on the board. But as always the drinks break brought wickets as Bevan was caught by Ruky Wickremasinghe off the bowling of Will Bennett. From there onwards the home side kept taking regular wickets including that of Gwather for 41 to keep the run rate under control. Jack Bowley came on and bowled an excellent eight over spell picking up 2 for 29. Southon and Bennett finishing with figures of 3 for 22 and 3 for 28 respectively to bowl out A&H Oak in only 36 overs for a under par score of 162 all out.
Newdigate's reply got off to a horror start with losing the in form Jack Wyllie without troubling the scores and he was soon followed by his skipper for another duck. With Hunt taking the wickets of Southon and Paul Bettesworth also without troubling the scorers, Newdigate's score read after 4 overs a disastrous 9 runs 4 wickets. Matt Clarke and Jason Wharam then steadied the ship for the home team with Clarke the more defensive and Wharam the aggressor putting on and impressive partnership of 86 for the 5th wicket before Clarke was out for 21.
Wharam went on to bring up a hard hit fifty and with Bennett too joining the party took Newdigate to an improbable win with 15 overs to spare. Wharam finishing on 86 not out which included 10 fours and 2 huge sixes. Bennett added 33 (4 fours and 2 sixes) for him self to go with his 3 wickets earlier in the day. For the visiting team Hunt finished with figures of 3 for 33.
