Ashtead 233-8 vs. Newdigate 142 all out.
Newdigate development team was beaten by a strong Ashtead outfit at Woodfield Lane on Sunday in their Surrey Trust Development League clash. Ashtead skipper Tom Deighton won the toss and elected to bat on a flat Ashtead track. The openers soon got things moving with both finding the boundary with ease. Newdigate struck in the fifth over though as Harry Ramsey had Michael caught by Stephen Kehl for 17.Leggie Jack Bowley then had Neil Hall caught in the deep for a rapid 65 and at the 20 the over mark Ashtead was well placed with wickets in hand and over hundred runs on the board. After the drinks break Skipper Deighton and Tom Laudy put on a 110 run partnership before Deighton fell for a well made 50. Laudy (52*) batted through to set a challenging target of 234 for the visitors. Bowley, Ramsey, Kehl and Des Harris all took two wickets each for Newdigate.
In reply Newdigate lost 3 early wickets to some tight bowling from Tyson and Elburn. This brought the visiting team skipper Ruky Wickremasinghe to the crease and with Richard Callcut tried to rebuild the innings before the latter fell for 16.The only notable partnership of the innings came from Wickremasinghe and Ramsey as they batted well to put on 43 runs for the 6th wicket. Wickremasinghe (55) in the process went on to bring up his first fifty for the season to the cheer of his peers. Once the pair decided to take on the bowlers and up the tempo both fell in quick succession. With Josh Pickering (3 for 7) cleaning up the rest of the tail Newdigate were all out for 142 in the 38th over.
