Newdigate 197 lost to Crawley Falcons 200-3
A weakened ten man Newdigate team travelled to take on Crawley Falcons on a very hot and muggy afternoon. After winning the toss and electing to bat skipper Ruky Wickremasinghe and Sam Slade soon got things moving as they put on 41 in just four overs before the latter was out to a well judged catch in the outfield. The home team took a further wicket before Mark Rance joined his skipper and put on a further 62 run partnership before falling for a hard hit 36.Wickremasinghe went passed his fifty but was out soon after for a well made 55.Newdigate kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Matt Clarke (30) and Ben Crook (26) tried to carry on but with some tight bowling the home team bowled out Newdigate for 197 in only 31 overs. With the track playing well, not using up the full quota of 40 overs looked like itwas going to hurt the visiting side.
After the ‘'Football'' break the home team soon got things going with young Anthony Puttick dispatching any bad balls to the boundary. Stephen Kehl got the break through for Newdigate by bowling Andy Plaister for a quickfire 22. This brought the South African Eugeine to the crease and he made sure that the runs were knocked off in a hurry taking 24 runs off Newdigate's South African Des Harris's second over. Puttick went on to pass his fifty before falling to Wickremasinghe but Eugeine carried on to take his team to an easy win ending up on 70 not out in very quick time.
