The Cricket Society 104 all out vs. Newdigate 105-1
Newdigate entertained The Cricket Society at home on a lovely Sunday afternoon. With a mix of seven U16s & U13s in his side the home skipper Ruky Wickremasinghe had no hesitation in asking the opposition to bat first after winning the toss. Cricket Society’s opening batter L. Hartland made his intentions very clear early on by hitting the second ball by young Harry Ramsey in to the woods for a mighty six and followed by a couple of more aggressive shots. His stay at the crease was short lived though when a fired up Stephen Kehl bowled him for 16 in the fourth over of the innings. From there onwards the young Newdigate bowling attack took regular wickets and put a halt on any acceleration to the scoring rate. U15 colt Henry Warne making his debut for the senior side had a very memorable day taking a stunning one handed return catch and the another diving catch at square leg to go along with his superb spell of swing bowling of 5 overs 2 wickets for 13 runs. All Newdigate bowlers bowled exceptionally and bowled out the visiting team for an under par score of only 104 from forty overs. Jack Bowley (2 for 15) and Craig Jones (2 for 11) were amongst the wickets for the home side too.
In reply, Newdigate’s opening pair of Mark Rance and Paul Bettesworth knowing that they had plenty of time and overs to get to their target played watchfully early on before cutting loose to dispatch any bad balls to the boundary. Bettesworth fell for 16 in the tenth over after a giving the home team solid start. Rance was then joined by the ever improving U13 colt Jack Wyllie and the pair ensured that Newdigate did not lose any further wickets before they reached the target in only 22 overs. Wyllie finished on 12* and his senior partner who got sum much needed time at the wicket finished on a very well made 70* to round up a excellent day for the home side. |
