Findon 233-5 vs. Newdigate 198 all out

Newdigate visited Findon at the weekend and was asked to field by the home skipper after he had won the toss. The opening bats for Findon played watchfully due to some good bowling from Paul Bettesworth and Henry Warne. With Jordon Morris (2 for18) coming on to the attack and taking the wickets of the openers in successive overs the visiting team had things under control at the halfway point. Oli Cave and Skipper Jamie Lewis then started the acceleration that Findon needed before Cave was out for 33. Jack Metters joined his skipper and soon the boundarys started to come more freely with some lusty hitting from Metters in particular. Both batsmen reached their fifties before falling to Ben Crook (2 for 50). The home side finished on a very formidable score of 233 for 5 in the allocated 40 overs.

After a very nice tea Newdigate started their run chase with Matt Clarke giving good support to the hard hitting Matt Homewood and the pair took the visitors score to 88 in 16 overs before Homewood fell for 46.Clarke soon followed him for 33 and at the half way point Newdigate needed 131 runs more to win off 120 balls which was not impossible but hard as the pitch was playing very low and the left arm wrist spin of Metters was not giving too many bad balls to take advantage of. Newdigate’s Skipper Ruky Wickremasinghe and Mark Rance (22) kept the run rate within reach. Once Rance was out Craig Jones joined his skipper and the pair moved the score onto 189 before Wickremasinghe fell for a well made 43. From there on the visiting side kept losing wickets trying to keep up with the asking rate and was finally bowled out for 198 runs in 37 overs. For Findon young Jack Woods was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 28 and was well supported by Metters 2 for 31.Findon winning the game which was very well competed by both teams.
