Match cancelled due to rain

17/05/09 Pinkneys Green (a)

Newdigate   192-8 vs. Pinkneys Green 120 all out

On a miserable Sunday, when all their other fixtures were cancelled due to rain, Newdigate travelled to Berkshire to play Pinkneys Green in the NPower Village Championship

Winning the toss, the visitors elected to bat on a wet wicket, in a match reduced to 35 overs per side.

Newdigate started well, and it took the introduction of Jags (13-2) to make the breakthrough.  Richard Callcut continued to play his shots, and when he fell for 58, his team were in a strong position.  A useful partnership between Des Harris (32) and Mark Rance (22) pushed the score on, and with help from the lower order, Newdigate posted a commanding 192-8

In reply, Pinkneys Green lost three quick wickets, including the prized scalp of Jags to a sharp slip catch from Charlie Major.  Saj Hussain (52) and Max (22) fought back, but after the latter holed off the bowling of colt Steven Kehl, Hussain lost partners at regular intervals.  When he was finally caught by the last of Mark Rance's three catches, then the game was up, and the home side subsided to 120 all out with 6 overs still remaining

Newdigate will now travel to either Rowledge or Frensham in the Semi Final of the Surrey & Berkshire group of the competition
