This much anticipated fixture was played under grey skies in chilly conditions. The coaches batted first and the under 15s had to cope with Richard Callcut, who is in the form of his life, and the somewhat unknown quantity of Ross Hamilton. The pair put on 188 with Callcut smashing 112 and Hamilton playing the supporting role in scoring 50 no. The bowlers stuck to their task manfully and the story could have been different as Callcut was dropped three times. After he retired on 112, Alex Miler bowled very tightly up the hill and was rewarded with the wickets of Mike Osborne and Chris Fox. The coaches declared after 31 over on 229-2.
In reply Alex Southon (68) and Jack Wyllie (52) put on 95 for the first wicket despite some excellent seam bowling from Paul Griffiths (2-25 from 10 overs) and Dev Patel (2-32 from 8 overs). Both batsman took care when facing the leg spin of John Callcut (1-39 from 10 overs) but Southon eventually holed out to Charlie Major at long-on. Jason Wharam nicked out Fraser Mosley and Thomas Ball but Will Bennett accelerated the scoring with a well-struck 17 and Cameron Osborne kept the momentum going in scoring 24. Wyllie kept the innings together and was 7th batsman out in the 40th over. With 18 runs needed in 5 overs and three wickets to fall it was anyone's match but Griffiths's last two overs went for just six runs which included the wicket of Bertie Edwards and despite John Callcut trying to entice the batsman to hit out the Stephen Kehl and Harvey Mewis wisely opted for the draw and finished on 208-8. Thanks to Pierre Tartari and William Harmsworth for umpiring and Emma Miller, Julian Ball and Charlie Wyllie for scoring and Diane and Krisztina for doing the teas.
