Newdigate's season got off to a start with their annual match against Stoke D'Abernon.After losing the toss and asking to bowl first, Newdigate's opening bowlers Ben Crook and Sam MacDonald kept the batsmen quiet with a tight line and length.The first wicket came in the 12th over when 13 year old Harry Ramsey had Gavin Greese stumped superbly by Paul Bettesworth from a leg side take. Stoke D'Abernon kept the run rate going well with Frost (42*) and Raimando (52 *) to take the score to 202 off the allocated 40 overs.

Newdigate's reply got off to a steady start with skipper Ruky Wickremasinghe and Matt Jee playing watchfully with the opening bowlers swinging the new ball and the wicket playing low. The pair put on 76 before Wickremasinghe was out for 46 and Jee followed him in the next over. Pete Edwarde batted well for his 26 runs but fell to a diving one handed catch from Gottschalk.Newdigate fell short of the target by 37 runs.A good start to the season (even with a losing result ) with a top oppo to play against.
