Sunday 1st XI Reports

14/06/07 The Min (H)
The Min 209 all out vs. Newdigate 164 all out

The Min won the toss and elected to bat on a hot and muggy afternoon at the brocus. They lost the first wicket to a one handed catch by Des Harris to give Ben Crook his first of his 2 wickets for the day.Gupta arrived at the crease and he started playing the big shots and took the bowlers on to bring up a quickfire 50 but not before being dropped on the boundary early on. He was finally out for a well made 73.The lower order batsmen too followed suit and got The Mins score to 209 in 42 over with Garland finishing on 37 not out. Young leg spinner Jack Bowley finished with figures of 3 for 63 off 11 overs.Chris Perrin on his first team debut finished with figures of 2 for 6 in 4 overs.

Newdigate’s reply got off to a bad start loosing 2 quick wickets to the left arm bowling of Ingham (2 for 29 ). Once Mark Rance Joined Skipper Ruky Wickremasinghe they both started to steady the ship with Wickremasinghe taking on the bowlers and finding the boundary often.Wickremasinghe got to his fifty and looked like he was going to take Gate to victory along with Rance (28). But after taking the wicket of Rance and the scoring rate dropping The Mins bowlers got the prized scalp of Wickremasinghe for a powerfully made 86.Bennett Tried to keep up with the run rate but the ask was too much for Newdigate and was bowled out for 164 in only 36 over. Garland followed his batting display earlier with excellent figures of 6 for 44 in 10.3 overs to round up a good win for The Min.

Newdigate are playing Camberley in their first Surrey Trust Development League game next Sunday and will be looking to get off to a winning start in this new format.
