In their first home game of the season Newdigate hosted the Bushmen, for this annual game.
The visitors won the toss and decided to field. This proved to be a bad decision as Newdigate went on to be 61-0 early on. Chris Fox 31 and Sam Slade 46 leading the line for the home side. But the Bushmen didn't let that phase them and D.Morley 6/1/35/4 took some important wickets in the middle order, but for every Newdigate wicket lost the next batsman would also give a fine innings. Des Harris 55 and Harry Ramsey 45, guided Newdigate through the middle part of their innings. From there two and a half hours Newdigate had set a solid total of 261-7. The Bushmen had a task to achieve this total, but the pitch looked like a batsmen's wicket, so it set the second innings up to be an exciting one after tea.
After the break Newdigate took an early advantage, Jos de Castro 5/2/10/2 striking twice early on, giving the hosts the advantage. The middle order needed to perform for the visitors and that's exactly what they did. D Morley definitely took man of the match with a spendid 76 not out accompanied by Jackson 47. They kept Newdigate's bowlers out and captured the draw for their side.
A great game played with really high spirit and a huge sense of fun. Newdigate travel away next week to Wimbledon, still in search of their first win.
