Newdigate 163 all out vs Capel 81 all out
Newdigate travelled to Capel for their first fixture of the new season, against our old friendly neighbours Capel.
The sky was blue and the weather was hot and skipper Sam Slade won the toss and elected to bat.
Newdigate struggled to gain momentom early on with some fantastic opening bowling from the Capel attack, but finally increased the run rate with some mature batting from Keith Posner 23 and his son Andrew Posner 38 who were in good early form and proved to be the toughest of the Newdigate batting talent with the top scores, but Capel did fight well, l.Costello picking up figures of 7.2 overs 1 maiden 23 runs for 5 wickets which was thoroughly deserved.
Newdigate had batted very nervously and edgely to gather their total of 163.
After tea, Newdigate needed early wickets but they didn't find them as Capel's opening pair of L.Costello 22 and C. Ward 24 fought well. Newdigate needed to find a break through and they did and it came at the hands of a change in attack, and with both the opening batsmen now out Newdigate went on to clean up the rest of the wickets rather swiftly, Sam Slade finishing with figures of 3 overs 1 maiden 3 runs 5 wickets.
A really great game played between these two clubs, and we look forward to playing Capel again.
