Newdigate 121 all out vs. Capel 122-0
On the second beautiful Sunday in a row, Newdigate took the short journey to its local rivals Capel, for some friendly cricket.
Newdigate skipper Sam Slade won the toss and elected to bat. Was this a wise move after last weeks dismal batting performance?
Newdigate started brightly, with a solid 65-2, James Betteswotrh 24 and Chris Perrin 45, taking the early fight to Capel. After ten overs Newdigate was in a strong position, but it all went horribly wrong! Joe Buckingham took four wickets (7/1/20/4), and ripped through Newdigate's middle order for the loss of 12 runs. Newdigate came to an abrupt halt and was saved by a steady last wicket stand of 28 which gave Newdigate a look in on this game, finishing on 121.
With teams swapping over, Newdigate needed early wickets, with Capel, knowing that they needed a good start so the first ten overs would be key to this match, leading to one clear winner. Newdigate failed to take their chances and Capel, gathered the required target without loss. P. Bullock 52 and C.Thurgood 58 chased the total down quickly, with little trouble.
As always a great game with fun and enjoyable cricket. Next week Newdigate travel to Nutley Hall in search of their first win and in need of a much better all round performance.
