Fittleworth 260-9 vs. Newdigate 173 all out
Newdigate travelled down to Fittleworth for what turned out to be a very one sided game. Having won the toss, skipper Craig Jones elected to field with a very youthful and useful bowling attack. Newdigate started the innings off well with Harry Ramsey (1-17) and Dai Fraser (1-36) taking early wickets. However, this brought on an onslaught from opener, A.Kitchener (100) and middle order batsman G.Kitchener(44). With a big slope down one side of the ground, they manoeuvred their shots well and pierced the gaps between Gate's boundary fielders. Youngster, Will Roberts was brought into the attack and he justified his inclusion in the team by clean bowling G.Kitchener on his way to figures of 1-25. A.Kitchenor then picked up the pace further to push Fittleworth onto 260 which was always going to be a huge total. Newdigate used ten bowlers on total and the picks were the final pair of Thomas Ball (1-21) and Pete Trowler (2-20).
In reply, Newdigate got off to the worst possible start with the loss of three early wickets. With the score on 4-3, Chris Fox joined Craig Jones at the crease for a fifty partnership to try and rebuild the innings. Both players hit regular boundaries before Jones departed for 27. Fox was then joined at the crease by Harry Ramsey and they also put on a healthy partnership with Ramsey getting 34 and Chris Fox getting his maiden fifty in an extremely well judged innings. Despite Fox (51) and Roberts (14) trying to salvage a result, Newdigate was bowled out for 173. |
