Once a year, the Newdigate old boys, "Nobs", come back and play against the new boys in rememberance of Jenny Chamberlain.
The New Boys won the toss and elected to bat, they would be facing two of the clubs leading all time wicket takers and both with vast experience. So it was going to be a test.
But the new boys seemed to cope, and they batted superbly, a partnership of 181 for the second wicket, really stole the game from the old boys. Skipper, Sam Slade scoring 100 not out and Andrew Posner scoring a very aerial but effective 99 not out, for which he was charged with jug avoidance.
After the break, the Old Boys knew they had to score quickly, but they never really got off to a good start. Wickets fell early on due to some accurate bowling from Dave Keating 5/2/8/4. but the Old Boys gave chase, strongly led by solid batting from Trevor Spurway 56. This led to the Old Boys finishing on 139 -7 in their alloted overs. Although they gave it a good shot, the target set was too high.
A great game played in high spirits, £200 was raised for Macmillan Cancer, and it takes the New Boys into a 3-2 going into next year.
