Sunday 2nd XI Reports

24/05/09 - Merstham (H)

Merstham 192-9 dec. vs. Newdigate 193-4

An inspired performance by under 13, Jack Wyllie, proved too good for Merstham

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, Newdigate entertained Merstham at the Brocus
Skipper, Sam Slade won the toss, and put his side in the field in the heat. Newdigate started brightly and an early wicket taken by Chris Perrin, put Merstham on the back foot, but they turned it around thanks to a huge partnership by M. Robson (43) and D.Fraser (59) whichput them firmly in control. A bowling change for Newdigate saw Jack Wyllie come into the attack, and he took both of these wickets for Newdigate finishing with figures of 8/1/35/3 whichagain turned the game to Newdigate's favour. The visitors finished on 192 for 9.
After tea Newdigate went out to bat and like their opponents lost an early wicket, with some great bowling from Pellow, 11/1/39/2, and Hussain, 10/0/38/3.  Four wickets down and needing 102 runs in the last 20 overs, Newdigate did it with Wyllie hitting his first ever fifty and ending on 61 and Darren Drew hitting 51 not out. Newdigate had won 5 games in a row after a fantastic match which could have gone either way.
Newdigate host the Bushmen next week, surely they can't make it 6 from 6?
