Newdigate 209-6 vs Temple Sheen Eccentrics 182 all out
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, Newdigate travelled to Temple Sheen side for what was the 9th game of the season. Temporary skipper Hiten Patel won the toss and chose to bat to take advantage of the good batting conditions. A strong start from Temple Sheen restricted Newdigate to 22 for 1 off the first ten overs, however Andrew Posner, back from University upped the run rate and raced to an impressive 58. Peter Trower carried on his impressive form and hit a quick 31 making the 2nd wicket partnership of over a 100. With this strong platform set, in form Craig Jones and Dave Keating (24) were left last 13 overs to push Newdigate to that magic 200 mark; with big hitting from Jones who scored his maiden 50 in a quick fire 62*. He cleared the ropes a number of times and helped Newdigate finish on a well desereved 208.
Newdigate's opening duo Jose De Castro and J. Humphries bowled a tight and disciplined line to restrict the scoring initially, however opener S. Coggins batted his was beautifully to 60 before being dismissed by Keating. Chris Fox was the pick of the bowlers with impressive figures of 3 for 11 from 2 overs. With regular wickets falling, Newidgate increased the pressure to keep up with the run rate. This was increased by faultless fielding by the whole Newdigate team with sharp, close catches from Keith Posner and De Castro. Eventually in the 39th over De Castro wrapped up the innings with a well bowled slower ball, leaving the home team just short on 182 runs and left Newdigate with a well deserved victory!
