Woodmansterne 240-8 vs. Newdigate 58 all out
On a rather sunny Sunday afternoon, Newdigate Sunday 2nd XI travelled to Woodmansteren for the first game of the new season.
Newdigate won the toss and elected to field.
This proved to be a good choice early on with the hosts struggling on 39-4 after 10 overs. Peter Trower (5/1/18/2) was the pick of the bowlers early on.
Woodmansterne needed to get a hold of the game, and they did with Patel 42 and Rhillans 85, really turning the match in Woodmansterne's favour. Newdigate set up an interesting finish with Darren Drew taking three quick wickets (6/0/9/3), leaving the hosts to finish on 249 for 8.
Newdigate needed to get to a good start to chase this strong total, but unfortunately the visitors failed to do this, with three quick wickets falling. Chris Fox (33) was the only batsmen to take the fight to the home team. Newdigate failed to really ever get going on this occasion due to some fantastic tight bowling from the home team. J.Patel (5/0/19/3) and Whyte (5/1/7/2) were the pick of the bowling attack. Newdigate finished on 58 all out, and will have to pick themselves up before next week's game.
A really friendly game played in great spirits, just unfortunetly Newdigate were a bit rusty following the off season.
