Saturday 3rd XI Reports

07/08/10 - Chipstead, Coulsdon & Walcountians 4th XI (A)

Gate lose out in close fought match

Chipstead, Coulsdon & Walcountians 153 all outI vs. Newdigate 143 all out

Newdigate were defeated in a close fought match in the showers at Chipstead. The visitors won the toss and elected to field, a decision which looked well founded with the scoreboard on 15-3. Two wickets from skipper Kehl and a run out left the visitors in real trouble. Youngster T.Long batted well and made a confident 46, before before being dismissed by adult debutant Christian Parsons, backed up by N.Heal and S.Childs with 24 and 32 respectively. Kehl brought himself and Charlie Major back into the attack and the pair cleaned up the tail. Kehl finished with figures of 11.4-2-29-5 to leave the home side all out for 153. Newdigate's reply didn't get off to the best of starts with wickets falling at regular intervals to leave them 33-3. John Callcut and Kehl put on 58 for the fourth wicket before Calcutt fell for 25. When Kehl became seventh man out for an impressive 40, Newdigate's hopes rested with Charlie Major and the tail. Major produced some hard hitting to compile 25 off only 11 balls. However, as wickets fell at the other end, the last batsmen Charlie Wyllie joined Major with 13 runs still required. However an unfortunate mix up left Wyllie to be run out with Gate still ten runs short. A good game of cricket despite the weather conditions with Newdigate unfortunate to miss out on victory.
