Newdigate travelled away to play Holybush Tavern on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon. After winning the toss, Newdigate batted and didn't get off to a great start. Chris Perrin and Fraser Mosely both fell without troubling the scorers and with opener David Atkinson batting patiently, only Chris Fox made double figures to stay with Atkinson. With the score on 61 Atkinson became 5th man out with a valiant 14 off 21 overs. The wickets just kept falling however, and Newdigate were reeling on 76-8. Enter captain Stephen Kehl and Chris Douse. Kehl batted patiently against good bowling from the returning Holybush openers. Douse then unleashed and sent the ball all round the ground, significantly upping the run rate. When the openers finished their spells, Kehl and Douse both launched a blistering attack on the other bowlers. Kehl reached his 50 with only 5 overs to go and Douse eventually fell for a brutal 44 off only 27 balls which included 7 boundaries. Alex Miller joined Kehl for the last over and after putting the ball to the fence himself he got the single to put his captain on strike. Kehl delivered and smashed the last 2 balls to the boundary to give Newdigate an excellent 204 and leave Kehl unbeaten with a superb 74. Opening bowlers Bates and Corke both bowled well finishing with 8-4-11-0 and 8-0-27-2 respectively but unfortunately they were not backed up by the rest of their side. Newdigate started well and Chris Douse clean bowled the opener off the first ball of the innings. Alex Miller at the other end bowled good lines and the paired bowled 11 overs in tandem to leave the Holybush four down. Kehl and Matt Dilger took over securing 2 and 3 wickets respectively to wrap up the game and leave Holybush all out for 88. An excellent performance and victory for Newdigate who have now won two on the trot.
