Under 10s - East Surrey Colts League

02/08/09 Southern Rail & Kenley (H)
Newdigate U10 308-2  vs. Southern Rail & Kenley U10 264-8

Newdigate under 10s wrapped up their season with a friendly match against Southern Rail & Kenley on a warm, sunny Sunday morning.

Batting first, Newdigate's batsmen all played sensibly and only conceded two wickets. Jack Butler top scored with 8 and Oliver Turner (6) and James Bennett (5) also contributed towards a good score of 308 with extras playing a leading part.

Newdigate's bowling was much tighter and they managed to take eight wickets in restricting the visitors to a score of 264. Henry John took a wicket and did not conceed a run in his two overs, Zach Lavender clean bowled a batsman first ball and James Salvage discovered that he was a leg break bowler and also took a wicket. Special mention must be made of James Butler who kept wicket for the first time as  he did an excellent job and should really consider taking up the position on a permanent basis.

The under 11 age group at Newdigate is large so it was decided to also enter an under 10 side in the East Surrey Colts League in order to give the younger players some competitive cricket. As the season progressed so the team improved and they finished a creditable fourth place out of ten teams.
