Newdigate U11 276-11 vs. Capel U11 268-7

 

Newdigate's excellent form continued with this win, which was witnessed by a good crowd on a warm summer evening.

 

Capel's bowlers of Dominic Venn and Freddie Edwards backed up by Jack Taylor and James Whitehouse made inroads into the Newdigate batting and after eight overs the score stood on just 209. Finn Osborne then hit a delightful 29 and James Bennett and Frankie Shipton batted sensibly. The last pair of Jack Butler and Oliver Turner both scored 12 which was aided by some courageous, or some might say outrageous, running between the wickets. Nevertheless 276 was a below par score and Capel's bowling and fielding can take much of the credit for this.

 

Capel got off to a good start with Jack Taylor (13) and William Edwards (4) batting sensibly. Frankie Shipton, bowling a probing line and length, took a wicket and James Bennett two in one over and Newdigate sensed that they were back in the game. Some tight bowling from Joe Teague and Wilfred Hoad applied more pressure and the last pair of Harry Peak and Dominic Venn needed 28 to pull off victory. Both batsman played their shots which included a towering six from Peak but they couldn't quite pull it off and ended nine runs short on 268.
