Southern Rail & Kenley U11 309-5 vs. Newdigate U11 240-13
Once again Newdigate found their side depleted due to holidays and the task of overturning a strong Southern Rail & Kenley side in the East Surrey Colts League U11 Cup Final proved to be too much.
Kenley batted first and although they started slowly thanks to some accurate bowling by Marley Bygrave and Ollie Turner, the score gradually increased due to some very solid batting and a fast outfield. Throughout, Newdigate bowled and fielded with much enthusiasm, but the opposition's total of 309 looked pretty daunting.
After eight overs Newdigate were at a very healthy total of 251 thanks to a fine opening partnership between George Warne (32) and Jack Butler (3). Suddenly there was a rush of wickets as Kenley's bowlers grew in confidence. Apart from some gallant hitting at the end by Marley Bygrave (30 for twice out) no one else could come to terms with Kenley's accurate bowling and fielding and Newdigate ended on 240 leaving Southern Rail & Kenley worthy winners of the cup.
