Under 12s - East Surrey Colts League

22/06/10 - Crawley Down (A)
Newdigate U12  136-3 vs. Crawley Down 129-5

Newdigate travelled to the beautiful Fonthill Lodge School at East Grinstead on an idyllic summers evening for their East Surrey Colts League match against Crawley Down.

Skipper Andrew Kehl won the toss and decided to bat first. Marley Bygrave (24) and Andrew Kehl (25 ret) have become a reliable opening partnership and credit to must go to both batsmen as they had a difficult time against the Crawley openers of Tom Thurloway and James Hardy. The scoring rate was maintained by George Warne who reached 25 off the last ball and Tobias Barnett who hit two searing straight drives as Newdigate reached a good total of 136-3 from twenty overs.

Charlie Wyllie soon took a wicket but Thurloway then rested the initiative with a  quickly struck 25 retired and he was ably assisted by C.Freeman who also retired on 25. Trigg (17) and Hardy (19 no) looked as though they were going to steer Crawley to victory but Kehl bowled Trigg and Jacob Allen and Toby Perrin bowled three tight overs. This left Marley Bygrave to bowl the final over with 13 runs needed and when he bowled a wide and a no-ball it looked as if nerves had got to him but he recomposed himself and struck with two wickets - one bowled and one caught behind by the impressive wicket keeper, Finn Osborne. Hardy was left stranded and Crawley Down ended on 129-4.

Newdigate fielded well and special mention must go to Perrin and Allen who both saved many runs in the field.
