Under 13s - East Surrey Colts League

08/08/10 - Woodmansterne (H)

Woodmansterne U13 95-2 vs. Newdigate U13 93-6

With sixteen players unavailable Newdigate was forced to play this game with ten players and this cost them dearly.

Woodmansterne batted first and got off to a flyer with Liam Walkinshaw striking the ball handsomely to all sides of the ground. After just five overs they were on 35-0. Some sensible bowling from Marley Bygrave and Christian Parsons stemmed the tide and the flow of runs were slowed down, but not before Walkinshaw retired on a well compiled 30. Although there were only two wickets taken, a run out and an Archie Ramsey flighted ball that bowled James Sharpe, Newdigate were happy to be chasing a total of 95.

Newdigate's innings followed a similar pattern to that of Woodmansterne and after five overs they were on 34-1 with the only loss being Will Roberts who was bowled for 10. Marley Bygrave batted extremely well and retired on 30 but he only really got support from Charlie Wyllie (10). In the end desperate measures were needed as the batsman struggled in vane to get the required runs with some almost impossible running between the wickets.

Under the rules of the league if a side fields with a player missing, two overs are deducted, thus Newdigate ended on 93 just two runs short, but if they had a full side then of course the story may well have been different
