Felbridge U14 59 v Newdigate U14 127-3
Newdigate travelled to Felbridge knowing that they had to win to clinch the U14 division of the East Surrey Colts League. However, the most likely result was a victory for the weather, which would hand the title to Southern Rail Kenley.
On arriving at the Felbridge ground, the boys encountered a very soggy pitch, but a home team and manager who was keen to get the game on, albeit on the artificial wicket.
Either side of a rain brake, Alex Southan (18) and Jack Wyllie (19) got Newdigate off to a positive start, adding 47 for the first wicket. When both fell in quick succession, Fraser Mosley (33 not out), and Thomas Ball (39) upped the tempo and, with the skies darkening, visiting captain Stephen Kehl called an end to the innings after just 18 overs at the fall of Ball's wicket.
With rain inevitable, Newdigate rattled through their overs, and the home side never got started with Gowan (16) the only batsman to make double figures. The innings was over in just 50 minutes as Felbridge were dismissed in the last of their 20 overs for just 59. Kehl took 3 wickets, Southan 2, and Will Bennett 2
Newdigate had to wait for Southern Rail Kenley to play their final game before the title could be confirmed, but despite them winning, they were unable to secure the monumental increase in run rate that would have been required to deny Newdigate to clinch the title.
