Under 15s - East Surrey Colts League

19/05/09 Horley - Cup (H)
Horley U15  112-8 vs. Newdigate U15 107-7

Newdigate had to field a number of under 13s for this cup match as a school trip had taken quite a portion of the regular squad away to the Oval. Nevertheless they put up a good performance against a strong Horley side. There had been heavy rain and special fielding restrictions had to be put in place to protect the square.

Horley batted first with solid scores from M.Perrow (12), M.Thomas (14) and C.Jones (23) but no one made a big score so Newdigate was happy to be chasing 112-8 from their allotted 20 overs. Stephen Kehl took 3-25 and leg spinner, Jordan Morris 2-20.

Alex Southon, making his debut, hit a classy 50 which included several superb on-drives. He was helped by Jordan Morris (28) who probably played his best ever innings for the club. Against some tight bowling, especially from Jack Hyde (3-13) the lower order Newdigate batsmen were unable to keep the momentum going and in spite of a late flourish from David Long were unable to reach Horley's total and finished on 107-7

 15/07/09 Horley (A)

Horley U15  110-8 vs. Newdigate U15 81-2

Unbeaten Newdigate fielded a weakened side against a strong Horley team and the difference in class soon became apparent. Horley batted first and came out with all guns blazing with the dangerous M.Perrow hitting the first two balls for four but in the same over he fell to a slower ball as Alex Southon took the first of his two wickets. Leg spinner, Jordan Morris, captured the wickets of Ware and Thomas both well caught at square leg by Jose deCastro and deCastro himself bowled a tight spell of 1-21. Meanwhile E.Strode (22) and C.Jones (36) made a crucial middle order stand of 43.
Skipper Stephen Kehl managed his bowlers well as he took responsibility at the end and took 3-17 including two caught and bowled and Southon came back and bowled a tight final wicket maiden. Newdigate's fielding had been exemplary with all wickets being caught but Daniel Goddard in particular was quite outstanding. Tthe visitors were happy to restrict their opponents to 110-8 after 20 overs.
Ware and Perrow opened the bowling with an impressive spell of fast bowling but Southon was particularly severe on anything short and after four overs Newdigate had 21 on the board. Horley then turned on the screw and it took another nine overs for the score to be doubled. Southon (46) tried desperately to turn the tide but it was only when Morris (16) came in that the rate accelerated but it was too little, too late as Newdigate only managed 81-2 after their 20 overs. Credit must go, though to Horley who bowled with skill and discipline and conceded 12 extras compared to Newdigate's 25.
